K-12 Educational Programs

Objective: Students will identify, classify, describe, and create artwork based on the elements of art and principles of design (Fine Arts Standard for Elementary School - Ohio Department of Education).

Activity: Start with a brief history of fashion and introduce different styles and cultural influences. Students then sketch a simple clothing item incorporating elements they've learned.

Assessment: Evaluate sketches based on understanding of design elements and creativity.

Objective/Standard State Board of Education: Students will understand and identify properties and potential applications of available materials. (Science Standard for Elementary School - Ohio Department of Education).

Activity: Introduce various textile types and their uses. Allow students to feel different fabric samples. Students then create a collage using fabric scraps.

Assessment: Evaluate the collage based on creativity and understanding of different textiles.

Objective/Standard State Board of Education: Students will understand the role of marketing in society (Social Studies Standard for Middle School - Ohio Department of Education).

Activity: Discuss the importance of branding and advertising in fashion. Students create a mock advertising campaign for a hypothetical clothing line.

Assessment: Evaluate campaigns based on understanding of marketing principles and creativity.

Objective/Standard State Board of Education: "Students will demonstrate an understanding of the conservation of resources" (Science Standard for Middle School - Ohio Department of Education).

Activity: Students bring an old clothing item from home and transform it into something new, promoting sustainability and creativity.

Assessment: Evaluate projects based on creativity, practicality, and the understanding of sustainability.

Objective/Standard State Board of Education: Students will understand the principles of entrepreneurship, the interconnectedness of personal, community, and business finances, and the effects of global economic interdependence.

Activity: Discuss principles of entrepreneurship. Students develop a basic business plan for their hypothetical fashion brand.

Assessment: Evaluate business plans based on understanding of entrepreneurship, financial planning, and global economic considerations.

Objective/Standard State Board of Education: Analyze the role of visual arts in culture and social identity (Fine Arts Standard - Ohio Department of Education).

Activity: Discuss fashion's role in social identity and cultural trends. Students research fashion from a chosen decade and create a brief presentation exploring the links between these trends and the social context of that era.

Assessment:  Evaluate presentations on comprehension, research thoroughness, and communication effectiveness.
